The TWO essential components for success that almost nobody knows in their network marketing business are; How much their leads are worth to them. If you don’t know how much every lead is worth to you, how can you be confident in spending time, energy and worse, your hard earned money, trying to generate leads. Are you just hoping that you will sell stuff to your leads and hopefully make up for the costs or have you calculated your average lifetime value of a lead?

In order to be successful in your business, any business, home based business, brick-n-mortar business, consulting or whatever business; you absolutely must know two numbers in your business:

1. Average lifetime value of a lead
2. Average cost to acquire

If you don’t know your conversion rates on your websites from prospect to lead and from lead to customer, meaning how many of your leads becomes customers, you can’t figure out what your average cost to acquire is. If you don’t keep track of how much your customers spend and more importantly how much money goes into your pocket. You cannot figure out what the average lifetime value of a lead is.

You must start to treat your business as a business, not as a lottery ticket. Don’t just hope that one day you will become successful and spend a ton of time in front of the computer writing articles, blog posts, creating YouTube videos, updating Facebook and Twitter, split testing your landing pages, creating PPC campaigns and so on and so on.

You might justify your actions in business by telling yourself that what you do to generate leads is 100% free. Let me stop you right there. You might not pay with your money directly, but your are giving up a ton of time that you could have spend with your family, your friends, enjoying your hobbies etc. And not only that but every time you make a decision that you will focus on one thing, you are essentially given up on a ton of other opportunities that you could have spend your time on.

If you were confident in your average lifetime value of a lead how hard do you think it would be for you to give the PPC world a try? If you didn’t, you would be stupid. If you knew with 99% confidence that you could make $5 bucks per lead, would you be willing to spend $4 bucks to generate that lead? What if your average lifetime value was $10 would you then be willing to spend $5 bucks per lead? You’ll most likely not end up spending 5 bucks per lead if that is the case you are doing something very wrong, but you get the point, right?

In both scenarios your business will be in profit but if you only made one dollar more than you spend on advertising it really comes down to your risk adversity. Would you be willing to risk it? Remember, it was the average lifetime value so it would most like take some time before you would recoup that cost to acquire.

Figure out what your average lifetime value of a lead is and your average cost to acquire, if you are doing ”free” promotional activities, put a price on your time and calculate with that to see a cost.

Grow your business with confidence. Start to treat your business as a business today and see immediate growth not only in your business but personal growth as well.

When you signed up in your network marketing business, I’m pretty confident your upline told you to make a list of your friends and family, correct? Told you to do 3-way calling and to bring people to a hotel meeting so they too could see the potential and the great business opportunity you have to offer with your MLM.

BUT my friends were no idiots and neither are your friends, if you get a skeptical response and they don’t want to join you in business. The reality behind their reasoning is actually quite logical. If you’ve never made any money with the business opportunity you are involved with how do you justify that you should be able to show your friends how to make money?

If you do a 3-way calling with your successful upline, you might justify the business overview approach, you know the presentation with the 3 who find 3 who finds 3… and we all make a fortune approach. But your upline is a rare breed if he or she is successful and if you get an income statement from your company you will see that your friends and family most likely made a good choice by not joining you in business. Well, that is if you are still struck in the ‘old’ marketing methods and don’t apply real proven solid marketing techniques, what most people refer to as the ‘new’ or ‘21st century’ marketing methods.

The problem with the new marketing methods and most “guru’s” on the Internet is that the message they tell their business builders or YOU as their student or follower on twitter, Facebook, YouTube or their blog, is to get on the internet, generate leads and *cablamou* they will become a success story. Unfortunately, recruiting issues runs much deeper than just leads. It’s not enough to just generate leads and wait for people to call you with their credit card in hand. Okay granted, you could set up a website, generate leads and wait for somebody to call you on the phone with their credit card in hand. I’m not saying it wouldn’t happen. Once you have everything in place and you consistently recruit distributors to your organization and the income is of a respectable size, it’s time to prospect your friends (again). This time around they might not be as skeptical about your business opportunity and once you have a proven successful business your friends can plug into, it becomes much more fun for everybody involved.

By making people find you and come to you, everything will be much more easy and fun.

Of course this is not the perfect recipe on how to grow your business. But this is great guidelines that you need to follow in order to start making real money and make it all the way. • Mistake number 1 that you will be told to do when joining a network marketing company: Write a list of ALL the people you know – don’t leave anybody out, everyone should have the chance to either buy your amazing products or join this company and become a part of your downline.

• Mistake number 2: Give everyone a presentation and show them why these products and this opportunity is the most awesome thing in the whole world.

• Mistake number 3: Hand out samples, business cards, DVD’s, magazines etc. This way the product will sell itself.

• Mistake number 4: Bring people to hotel meetings and home parties to give them a taste of what they just can’t say no to.

• Mistake number 5: Believe that everyone is your prospects, and you have to show this opportunity to all the people you know and meet – you are doing them a favour!

I could go on and on, but I think you’ve got the picture. This is pretty much what every network marketing company tells you to do, when joining. But these methods are just not working – I know I know, there are people who succeeds in this industry, about 3 %. But, these people know what isn’t working and more important, they know what is.

Everyone is not your prospects and the product won’t sell itself, then the company wouldn’t need you in the first place, right? Growing a home based MLM business is certainly not unrealistic, but if you do the things listed above, you’ll never make it to the top – actually, you won’t even get near the top.
