The Proper Way To Prospect In Network Marketing
In network marketing we are told to make a list of our friends and family. Give them a call and convince them to take a look at what we have – after all it is a fantastic opportunity and everyone can benefit from it, not to mention the products. Everybody needs this particular product. Everyone can gain from using/consuming it!
This philosophy and this way of doing business is only seen in the network marketing industry, and it’s not practiced in any other industry or business for a very good reason.
Imagine this scenario. One of your friends comes to you one day and starts hopping around and screaming about how great his new lawnmower is. Right there and then he grab you and in excitement cries, “You absolutely have to buy one of these lawnmowers RIGHT NOW!”
You immediately start considering if you actually need a lawnmower and if you do, should it be this one? You politely reply: “Let me think about it.”
But your friend is persistent and he keeps tugging on your shirt and insist: “No no no there is nothing to think about really, there is no time to think. I promise you this will be the best lawnmower you’ve ever purchased, the best thing you can do for your garden. Buy this lawnmower right now. You can’t get this lawnmower deal anywhere else, this is something you just HAVE to take advantage of – you just sign here!”
All of a sudden you start thinking; “You are just doing this for your own financial gain, isn’t that right?” You get annoyed or alarmed and you walk away.
Imagine another friend offering the same lawnmower, but he presents it this way:
You friend comes up to you right after he finished mowing his lawn and says: “Man, that lawnmower is absolutely fantastic.”
Your mind would naturally start asking more questions – more buying questions! Your friend would answer your questions and as he turns to walk away, he stops and says to you: “Hey, that lawnmower really helped me. If you want one too, just say so – I highly recommend it!”
Look at the difference. Aren’t you a lot more likely to buy the lawnmower from this friend?
When people try too hard to sell whatever they offer, they misunderstand the meaning of the word marketing. Marketing is about helping people get what they want. So many in network marketing think that we have to sell people what we offer. Many thinks we have to convince people to take a look at what we have.
Marketing is about knowing your audience, find your target market. Know what their needs, wants, and desires are. You have to know what they are looking for. Then, just give it to them. It’s about finding people who have a need/want for what we have. Marketing is about finding people who already have the desire. At that point, our only job is to fulfill that desire.
